Drop 2 arrives next week, won’t add any new achievementsApril 9, 2021
First things first: For those who are worried they might have some more achievements to grind away at, you can rest easy. The Coalition has confirmed to us that no new achievements will be added with Operation 6: Drop 2.
In terms of new content, Chairman Richard Prescott and the Disciple Drone are the two new characters joining the Gears 5 roster when Drop 2 rolls out to players next week. Tomb is the new map, which is comprised of a section of the restored the Tomb of the Unknowns, and features a raised corridor overlooking an open courtyard.
The Coalition will also reintroduce the popular Execution PvP mode with Drop 2, but with a few changes. According to The Gears 5 dev team, the original version of Execution would often end in stalemates, slowing the pace of the game. With Execution 2.0, The Coalition is adding “Overtime” to break stalemates.
“Overtime will begin after a standard two-minute round, at which point a ring appears on the map,” The Coalition says. “Teams then have 30 seconds to capture the ring or eliminate the other team to win the round. If the ring is being contested at the end of the first 30 seconds, then ‘Overtime’ continues until the ring is cleared or captured, or a team is eliminated. The ring capture time is a standard 5 seconds.”
If neither team captures the ring (or is in the process of capturing it) after the 30 seconds is up, the team with the most players left alive will be awarded the round. Only if both teams have the same remaining number of players left alive after the 30 seconds will the round end in a stalemate. The ring location will also move to different spots along the map’s centreline in a set order, similar to Gridiron.
For the PvE fans, a new event called Nexus Siege is coming with Drop 2. The Locust are back once again for a “truly one-of-a-kind experience in Horde.” Each wave of Locust enemies will feature unique stats and AI. The Coalition says that enemies may even forage for weapons from across the map to use against you. There will also be a unique Locust boss every two waves. Nexus Siege will run for two weeks.
There are also several PvP and PvE tweaks coming with Drop 2. You can view everything that’s included with the update over on the Gears website.
Gears 5 Operation 5: Drop 2 launches on April 13th.
